Trailer Feedback: Deadpool (2016)
Everyone’s favorite gun slinging, wise-cracking, hyperviolent anti-hero has his own movie and yes, it’s rated R.
Deapool’s trailer is filled with a plethora of murder, mayhem and mature language – and that’s not all. We also get a glimpse of leading man Ryan Reynold’s transformation from Wade Wilson to the merc with a mouth, complete with love interest bound to end in tragedy.
From a first look, Deadpool’s main characteristics seem like they will be intact. Marvel’s wittiest asassin breaks the fourth wall numerous times and goes back and forth with X-Men Colossus (Andre Tricoteux) and Angel Dust (Gina Carano), a few grunts and even an old lady (verbally).
Nothing is more priceless than the exchange that goes on between an unmasked Wilson and T.J. Miller’s “Weasel” (avocado anyone?).
And then there’s the pun-intended kicker. DMX’s “X Gon Give it to Ya” (because Deadpool is part of the Weapon X program).
Deadpool breaks into theaters next February.
We’re in (and we’ll be wearing our brown pants).

Jared Leto’s Joker Revealed
It’s amazing what a little studio magic can do to a person.
In honor of “The Clown Prince of Crime’s” 75th birthday, director David Ayer gave everyone the big reveal yesterday as to what actor Jared Leto (Fight Club) will look like as The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad film.
White as a ghost, covered in tattoos, and a lone, purple glove (Michael Jackson anyone?). Of course, Leto keeps the lyric true; fully dressing himself with that deranged, Joker smile we all know and love.
In the immortal words of Darth Vader, “Impressive…most impressive.”
With teasers all month using the “WhereIsJared” and “SuicideSquad” hashtags, Ayer cleverly built global suspense before giving the people what they wanted. It’s safe to say no one was expecting anything this awesome or unique.
In addition to Will Smith announcing his role as Deadshot, Suicide Squad looks to be one of the biggest blockbusters we’ve seen in a long time. With Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant Man poised to take this summer’s proverbial cake, it’s almost a given that DC will be taking a larger one next year.
Unless Deadpool has anything to say about it (he always does).
Trailer Feedback: Ant-Man
Paul Rudd looks like a surprisingly good choice for Ant-Man; a secondary Marvel hero that you may or may not know of.
If you fall into the latter category, Ant-Man was originally a scientist named Hank Pym who created a substance called “Pym Particles” that allowed him to change size at will. Pym also invented a helmet that could control ants. Scott Lang became the second Ant-Man after stealing the suit from Pym to save his daughter’s life. However, Pym was not vengeful and in fact encouraged Lang to take up the mantle, effectively reforming him from criminal to hero. Later, low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. employee Eric O’Grady stumbles upon the Ant-Man costume at S.H.I.E.L.D.’s headquarters and dons the persona – but is not the nicest guy in the world and almost destroys Ant-Man’s reputation completely.
Fortunately, we’re getting Lang’s redemption story for the feature film. We see Rudd (as Lang) being arrested, being asked by Pym (played by Michael Douglas) to become Ant-Man, and showing affection for his daughter. Effective development in 30 seconds.
Let’s not forget the sweet Ant-Man suit.
We also get nice shots of Ant-Man shrinking down, roughing up some bad guys and flying on a bug.
Ant-Man looks like it could surprise us as much as Guardians of the Galaxy did last year.
